EILEEN BARRETT 1924 - 2011
It is with great sadness that I heard today of the death of Eileen Barrett. Eileen was born Eileen Fisher in 1924 and was married to my uncle Billy. Eileen was very much part of my childhood as she was very close to my grandmother Esther and could often be found sitting in her kitchen. In later years Eileen and Billy moved to Cornwall and for several years ran the Bridge-on-Wool public house in Wadebridge. After Billy's death Eileen continued to live at St.Issey where she was a popular member of the community. A few years ago Eileen read the first draft of the family history and declared it "good". As she was one of the few members of her generation left this meant a lot to me. Sadly she hasn't lived to see the revisions and corrections to that original work as now presented on this blog. Eileen was also the only person in the Bayliss/Barrett family who was able to confirm that details of the circumstances surrounding my own birth were known by at least a few members of the family. Eileen passed away at Deriford Hospital, Plymouth, Devon after heart surgery. R.I.P. Eileen.
I'm very sorry. My sincerest sympathies.
ReplyDeleteVery sad day, her home and garden in Cornwall were a treat.
ReplyDeleteEileen was a very generous, kind person. I'm glad that I spent a week with her during my visit to England in 2001. Her cooking was the stuff memories are made of. Full of old fashioned flavour and stuck you to the ground for quite a few hours after eating. I wonder whether her pet badger is still alive, he'll miss her too.
