WELCOME TO THE BAYLISS LINE. This blog has been created for my family. By "my family" I mean all those who are related to the Bayliss family either by blood, marriage or even relationship. There are, of course, other Bayliss families not related to us but this blog has at its heart a very specific family who had their origins in Gloucestershire. I am connected to that family because my mother was a Bayliss and it was her curiosity that started my research back in the early 1990's. So, what are you likely to see on this blog? Well, as it is a blog, I want it to be as entertaining as possible rather that a dry listing of facts (that is for Ancestry.com). I will, hopefully, be posting entries on our ancestors and relatives, on the places where they lived, and the historical times they lived through. I have an extensive collection of photographs of people and places which I will, of course, be sharing.

I'd like to ask anybody who reads this blog to give me some feedback. I'd really like this to be a two way thing. It sometimes unearths new information and, to be honest, it gives me encouragement. There will be two ways of providing feedback - either through the comment button (you will need a Google account for this) or via the e-mail address which appears on this page - alternatively, ring me. Now scroll down to read the latest entries.....and, of course, via Facebook.

FOR THOSE WHO ASKED.....

Pam Bayliss Rowe was unsure of the identity of some of the people in the picture that appears as our heading illustration so for her and for younger members of the family who don't remember those days here is the information. The picture was taken outside The Islington Registry Office in Liverpool Road, Islington. The occasion was the double wedding of my grandmother Esther Abbotts and her youngest son William Barrett.. This was her third marriage, the first being to my grandfather Herbert Bayliss, the second to Richard Barrett and this one to her childhood friend Charles FitzGibbon. Esther was 68 at the time of the wedding the year was 1952. Adults left to right are :  Esther Bayliss Slater, unknown, William Booth, Joseph Slater, Joyce Barrett Booth (carrying baby Christopher), Ethel Bayliss Harris, Florence Bayliss Abbott, Cecilia Abbott Dell, Esther Abbotts FitzGibbon, Brother of Charles FitzGibbon, Stanley Bayliss (just visible at back), Charles FitzGibbon, Mrs. Fisher, Eileen Fisher, William Barrett, Mr.Fisher, Esther Bayliss Newell. The children left to right are Ernest Harris, Susan Dell, Carol Booth and Robin Slater. I'll be writing about most of the adults in later posts on this blog.

  1. If anyone is still having a problem with blogger not recognizing you as being signed in resulting in not being able to leave comments -- I think I've found a solution.

It may have to do with the "keep me signed in" feature. Go to blogger dashboard and if you have checked the "keep me signed in" option, sign out and then sign back in but un-check the box for "keep me signed in". That seemed to work for me.
