WELCOME TO THE BAYLISS LINE. This blog has been created for my family. By "my family" I mean all those who are related to the Bayliss family either by blood, marriage or even relationship. There are, of course, other Bayliss families not related to us but this blog has at its heart a very specific family who had their origins in Gloucestershire. I am connected to that family because my mother was a Bayliss and it was her curiosity that started my research back in the early 1990's. So, what are you likely to see on this blog? Well, as it is a blog, I want it to be as entertaining as possible rather that a dry listing of facts (that is for Ancestry.com). I will, hopefully, be posting entries on our ancestors and relatives, on the places where they lived, and the historical times they lived through. I have an extensive collection of photographs of people and places which I will, of course, be sharing.

I'd like to ask anybody who reads this blog to give me some feedback. I'd really like this to be a two way thing. It sometimes unearths new information and, to be honest, it gives me encouragement. There will be two ways of providing feedback - either through the comment button (you will need a Google account for this) or via the e-mail address which appears on this page - alternatively, ring me. Now scroll down to read the latest entries.....and, of course, via Facebook.

NEW HEADER PICTURE

The new picture at the head of the blog shows the wedding of Stanley Bayliss to Gladys Seamons on Christmas Day 1943 at St.John's Church Upper Holloway, North London. Those I can identify in the picture are : Left to Right : ?, ?, ?, Nelly Bayliss, William Barrett (front). Fred "Nibo" Barrett (back). Charles Bayliss, Esther Bayliss (later Newell), Esther Slater (formerly Bayliss), Phyllis Bayliss (formerly Brown). Esther Barrett (formerly Bayliss), ?, Stanley Bayliss, Gladys Bayliss (formerly Seamons), Ivy Seamons, Arthur Seamons, Joyce Barrett (later Booth), Cecilia Abbott (later Dell), Ethel Harris (formerly Bayliss), Florence Abbott (formerly Bayliss), Ada Bayliss (formerly Wilson).  The Bridesmaid is Iris Bayliss. I cannot identify the small child next to Iris or the baby. The baby in Florence's arms may be Alvin  or Peter Bayliss.

  1. Great picture, I wouldn't think the babies were me or Peter with our mums there.

I can't believe how young Iris and Billy look here.

  2. I'm wondering if the young child in the front would be Peter, who would have been 2 or 3 years old, and his mum and dad are both there.

  3. I'm not a good judge of children's ages but I checked and Peter was born January 1942 so he would have been nearly two when the picture was taken so, yes, I agree the child with Iris is most likely Peter. I still think there is a good chance that the baby is you or Treena as there are other family pictures of the women holding each other's babies. I can't think of any other babies in the family at that time. The baby looks grumpy so it's probably you.
